Fire in Stenåsa Öland – a barn burnt down – Sveriges Radio

The alarm of fire in Stenåsa on southern Öland came at 15 o’clock, and then burned it in a garage and a barn. The fire then spread to two living areas, one who was on the same site, was quickly rescued by emergency services while the other received major damage even if it remained on the site.

– It is a difficult fire, we have many units there, said Bengt Andersson at the emergency services on Öland to P4 Kalmar shortly after the alarm came in.

the fire-fighting complicated by the large water shortage on the island.

– There is a shortage of water for us, that’s what’s the big problem. There is no fire in the wells. We may run long distances now, they must fill in Alby.

Is there any water in the wells at all?

– No, it’s dry. It is difficult, to get water.

It took an hour before emergency services were able to get the fire under control and limit it to the buildings that first hit.

Tanker trucks from Kalmar Borgholm had been alerted to the fire and there were also troops from Mörbylånga, Degerhamn and the Runestone in place.

Does any person injured?

– Not that we know of, says Bengt Andersson.

at 17 o’clock got P4 Kalmar’s reporter on the scene, Nick Naslund , a chat with the incident commander at the scene, Henric Oskarsson , which told me more about the lack of water.

– You see how many cars there are here, there is much water is used and there was a crisis for a while so we had to make some savings on the water and put it where it really did benefit.

P4 Kalmar reporters were on hand for a little over an hour and were then able to witness how the rescue tankers were shuttled to fetch water elsewhere, as it then was no fire well with water ii region around Stenåsa.

police cordoned off the road a bit from Stenåsa during work but according P4 Kalmar reporter ignored the barriers and several motorists tried to make their way to village.

Shortly after 18 o’clock had the emergency been so good control of the fire that you could liquidate some units from the site. They had then also got hold of the owners of the properties.

– The smaller villa, just south of where the fire started, which is being boost up now. It carries out the furniture and so on. The house has become more damaged than the dwelling house on the property where the fire started, says Bengt Andersson at the emergency services.
